Rheumatoid arthritis pain in men - symptoms and medications

Arthritis in general is the inflammation of the joints and results in the destruction of the joints, deformity and loss of function. Rheumatoid arthritis is when the same condition is severe. Rheumatoid arthritis can occur equally in men as in women. It largely affects the functioning of the joints thus leading to malformation. It is said to be one of the common auto immune diseases. An auto immune disease is one that happens when the immune system of the body erroneously attacks the tissues of the body. Rheumatoid arthritis pain can last from a few months to many years with many of them not identifying the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

Though the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis pain is unknown, it can said to occur as a result of prolonged strain to the joints and bones. It has for long been suspected that virus, fungi and bacteria have been the cause but there has been no evidence for the fact. There are also some cases where the rheumatoid arthritis occurs as a result of the genetic and endocrine factors. Though there is no perfect rheumatoid arthritis medication there are some natural products that may provide relief to the inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms

The rheumatoid arthritis symptoms begin to show slowly. There is a large difference between the severities of the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in different individuals. The classic symptom of arthritis being joint pain may not be the right symptom for rheumatoid arthritis but fatigue, loss of appetite and weakness may be the early rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in men. Apart from the previously mentioned symptoms, there is also pain in the muscles and stiffness that lasts for more than an hour early in the morning. Inflammation and swelling of the joints may also occur in a few cases of rheumatoid arthritis.

The joint pain occurs in the wrists, fingers, knees, feet and ankles. As a result of these symptoms over the years, the joints are destroyed. Some of the secondary rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are fever, dryness of eyes and mouth, loss of weight and color changes of toes and fingers.

Risk factors of rheumatoid arthritis in men

There are quite a few risk factors that are associated with rheumatoid arthritis in men. One of the major risk factors is smoking cigarettes. This highly increases the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. Infections also play a vital role in developing arthritis as develops after an infection or illness. There are certain infections that can harm the immune system to a large scale, thereby resulting in rheumatoid arthritis.

Age is another factor that can be listed in the risk factors of rheumatoid arthritis. The men aged from 25 to 45 are more likely to develop this auto immune disease. The risk of arthritis however goes down after the age of 80.

Genetics also has a huge role to play in the risk factors of rheumatoid arthritis. A research at the University of Manchester in 2007 had identified a chromosome variant that was closely associated with rheumatoid arthritis and there were speculations that this variant has a great influence over the nearby gene that is involved in inflammatory processes.
